Jan Lenica (1928 – 2001) specialized in poster, graphic design, book illustration, stage design and animated films. Jan was the author of numerous articles and books on poster art. Author of the term “Polish School of Poster”
From 1963 – 1986 he lived and worked in France, while from 1987 he lived and worked in Berlin. He was a professor of graphic, poster, animated cartoon for many years at the German High schools and the first professor of the animation class at the university of Kassal, Germany in 1979.
Jan Lenica took an interest in many arts. A noted director of animated films, he stood out as one of the finest artists of the Polish school of poster. His posters were shown at numerous exhibitions in Poland and abroad.
Jan won numerous major awards such as the Toulouse Lautrec Grand Prix at the International Exhibition of Film Posters, Versailles, France, 1961. He also won 1st and 3rd prize at the international exhibition of film posters in Karlove Wary, Czech Republic 1962. Gold medal for the 1st international Biennial of posters in Warsaw, Gold medal for the International Tourism Poster Exhibition, Cantania, Italy 1971 and
